Extended Access

Extended Access (8:00 to 8:0018.00):

Thanet Health Community Interest Company (TH CIC) is facilitating the delivery of the out of hours extended access NHS project throughout Thanet. This project enables patients to book primary care appointments (GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, physiotherapists) up to18.00 on Saturdays.20:00 in the evening and at weekends.

The surgeries are working together and sharing the workload so that patients can see a GP, however not necessarily in their practice, but another nearby. To ensure the journey would not become an issue, the surgeries are grouped into the Primary Care Homes (Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Quex). The broader team involved helps the patients also to have access to a range of different professionals to give the most specific treatment to the problem they present with.

The appointments on Saturday are currently based at the QEQM and will be seen either by a GP, advanced nurse practitioner or paramedic practitioner.

All the clinicians have sight of the patients health records held by their surgery and the consultation will be recorded into the surgeries health records as well. There are systems in place to ensure that investigation requests, referrals to other health care providers are processed appropriately.

These appointments are booked through you’re a patient’s own surgery.
